A 230km EV Rally with Charge to Spare

In the first week of March, 2026, our AmazingEV team traded the office for the open road and took our beloved Tesla Model Y on the Australian Electric Vehicle Association’s (AEVA) inaugural EV rally from Olympic Park to the Blue Mountains as part of NSW Climate Action Week 2026

The Rally was organised by AEVA, Australia’s longest continuous running EV Association.  AEVA is a membership group with branches across Australia; they support drivers, deliver trusted EV information and advocate for the whole EV industry.

“We work across all levels of government and industry to bring EV choice to the consumer and aim to be the trusted voice of EV’s for government and consumers.”

James Pickering, President, AEVA

An Electric Line Up

On a perfect Sydney morning, an eclectic mix of almost 50 diverse electric vehicles, scooters and vans from 22 global EV brands glided their way into the Olympic Park carpark.

It was exciting to see representatives from the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), the President of AEVA, brand representatives from Everything Electric, Polestar, BYD, Leap Motors, Fonz, Jameel Motors and Zeekr coming along to support the community EV drive and supporting Climate Action.

After charging up with coffee courtesy of BYD Harmony, our convey embarked on an electrifying road trip.  The 230km route is art of the Destination NSW Top Nine EV Day Trips.

Look out for “Recharge Here” signs that identify the fast-charging stations on the route – and a chance for a pitstop!

A Majestic Pitstop

Our first assigned pitstop for the drive was Majestic.  The Hydro Majestic, a historic and iconic hotel overlooking the heritage listed Blue Mountains.

An exceptional location for tourist photo’s, coffee, cake and if you like history – the Hotel has an outstanding Museum!

For Rosco, from Amazing EV it was a chance to connect with the EV community.

“The AEVA Rally has given us a chance to meet lots of other EV owners who are enjoying driving across this beautiful NSW countryside, breathing in clean, fresh air!”

Magical Mount Tomah

Our convey quietly cruised into the stunning surrounds of Mount Tomah Botanical Gardens, Blue Mountains, where we enjoyed lunch courtesy of the team from NSW DCCEEW.

And, we were thrilled to hear David Malicki, Manager Programs, Transport Electrification say:

“We have a really great NSW Electric Vehicle Strategy, with an aim to get to 50% of all new cars sales being EV by the end of the decade.”

The BIG Question: Would you ever go back to petrol?

After lunch,  Rosco from AmazingEV caught up with some EV drivers to ask two big questions:

  • “Would you ever go back to petrol?”

  •  “What do you love about your EV?”

Check out our short video for highlights from the day, and some great chats with AEVA Members and EV drivers and what they throught!

Watch as the day starts at Olympic Park in Sydney, drove up to the Blue Mountains.  To the Hydro Majestic for a misty morning Tea, then up to Mount Tomah for a beautiful sunny luncheon.

The Verdict

Community at its best – we know that together we can make a difference. Thanks to groups like AEVA our EV community has a voice that makes real and positive change for the whole EV industry.

At the end of the trip, we gathered back at Olympic Park and did what all good EV communities do – compared how much battery charge we had left.   Most of us had at least 30 – 40%.

In the end, the day was best summed up by one driver:

“Would I go back to petrol?

No. Never.”
