Sometimes when sales aren’t quite as good as they should be, engineers or marketing people come up with some crazy ideas – The Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is one such amazing idea.
The IONIQ 5 was launched a few years ago now, and at the time the design was radical. It introduced us to the EV world with a completely different direction. The design language was original and it excited the motoring world embraced, who embraced it.
It seemed to draw inspiration from the Lancia Delta Integrale about it and I love it.
Fast forward a couple of years and while the design is no less radical and it’s been joined by it’s even more futuristic sister he IONIC 6. But now there’s so much more competition in the EV small SUV space and Hyundai are finding sales hard to come by. They had to do something.
So give engineers a chance to improve something and they will. Give designers a chance to tweak a spoiler or side skirt, and they will. Enter the IONIQ 5 N.
For some brands it’s an R, for others its an RS, some it’s just an S – for Hyundai it’s an N, their performance version.
The three pillars of the N badge for Hyundai are Racetrack capability, Corner rascal and Everyday sportscar. So the challenge for Hyundai Engineers was how to inject all that into an Electric Vehicle.
Recently the Hyundai IONIC 5 N has been introduced to the Australian market.
It’s on the Hyundai Australia website ow so we thought, let’s have look at the configurator and see what you get, what you’ll pay and how far they have gone with this AmazingEV.
You can reserve your fully customised N now, but deliveries could take up to 12 months. And how much, over $120k!
