New Xpeng P7 – A taste of things to come

Have a look at this incredible new Xpeng P7, breaking the internet for EV lovers!

Breath it in as a vision of beauty because there’s no doubt Xpeng, or Xaopeng as there are known in China, in a few short years have gone from inspired to inspirational.

Xpeng in Australia – a short history

Like most of you, I’d never heard of Xpeng till about a year ago, when a friend in the investment world said, keep any eye for Xpeng, it’s the next big thing. That was the team at TrueEV doing a deal with Xpeng in China (more about that later) to bring a completely unknown Chinese brand to Australia.

TrueEV are lead by Jason Clarke, and a team of investors and EV enthusiasts who, in just 6 months built the Xpeng brand here in Australia from scratch.  www.trueev.com.au  It must take a ton of cash to create an entire car distribution brand, I guess you have to pay for the cars before they get shipped right!

Sure, they had a little promotional help along the way with the Viking, one of the first owners and telling his G6 story and Sam the famous Olympian, entertaining us with his Xpeng Adventures. Thanks to them,  the Brand awareness is growing fast.

And you’ve seen them at every show with their cars and technology, and adding to this one, they’re building their new Experience Centre opening soon at Crown at Barangaroo, in Sydney.  Adding to Wollongong, more in Sydney and Melbourne.

So, this new model has really got the internet excited, it is beautiful and reveals a brand new design language for the brand, the new P7.   Interestingly, it was not released at the recent Shanghai Auto Show, but perhaps that’s the point, to stand out from the crowd.

Building a car brand from scratch has its challenges.

And for Xaopeng, one of the many Start-up automakers in China (with backing from Alibaba, and more recently VW and Blackrock)  which was founded and still run by Mr.Xiaopeng – the revolutionary design of the new P7 is a real turning point.

And yes, he’s the co-founder, executive director, chairman and chief executive officer of Xpeng, and is still in control as this start up grows in leaps and bounds.

But, building a new car brand is not without it’s challenges, and it cost a lot of money. Despite a number of exciting models currently in the range in China, X9, G9, P7 and Mona MO3 Project, the G6, the Model Y class competitor is the only one for sale here in Australia for now.  Its an outstanding car, I’ve driven,

But it’s also suddenly faced a barrage of competition in that space, from Geely, Leapmotor, Deepal and even the class king, the new Model Y has come back fighting.  Plus, the China market has just received a refresh of the G6, that’s not the one the local buyers have ordered.  This leaves local buyers in a quandary.

Chuck in a few delivery issues with the G6, and trading into a soft quarter of 2025 Xpeng, Xpeng, like all car companies in Australia have found it tougher going and Xpeng have a bit of work to do.

Xpeng’s future looks bright in Australia

But Xpengers, I have it on good authority, the Xpeng Team are doing absolutely everything they can to get the cars to new buyers and make more available for media evaluation.

Plus, Xpeng Australia’s 10-year free extended warranty has been reinstated for the Xpeng G6 – that’s worth a lot.

So there’s no doubt TruEV have backed a winner with this brand, it’s grown fast in China, it’s on the upswing – April is the 6th consecutive month they have delivered more than 30,000 vehicles – perhaps that’s why they are so hard to get!

In Australia, there’s no holding Xpeng back with 3 new experience centres planned in the short term, with a targe to 30 for Australia.

And they put the final touches on Jewell in the Crown, as it were, the new Xpeng Experience Centre opening at Crown Casino, Sydney in early June.  We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Xpeng in Australia.
